The Montauk SurfMaster’s Spring tournament runs from May 17th to July 6th, 2019. This is a seven week invitation only competition that is open to all current Montauk SurfMaster’s and previous members only

Adult Application: Rules, Regulations, Bylaws
  1. This is a catch & release only tournament ONLY with a mix of cash and tackle prizes for winners.
  2. Entry fee of $100 for all Adult members (Wader, Wetsuit & Women division) to participate in the heaviest C&R fish for adults (18+) as well as a winner take all prize for each selected division (Wader, Wetsuit, Women). Spring and Fall are separate $100 entries for adults.
  3. The entry fees will be divided as follows into a winners pot: 75% of fee allocated to overall Adult (1st, 2nd, 3rd finishes), 25% to a selected division (Wader, Wetsuit, Women) each with a winner’s take all 1st place only finish. Winners plaques and sponsor tackle prizes will be provided for overall adult and each division winners. Your overall adult entries will be automatically entered to your selected division, only 1 place per angler in overall adult and only 1 selected division per angler (example, you can’t enter wader & wetsuit – choose 1 for the tournament period).
  4. Kids (11yr or under) and Youth registration (Ages 12-17) is free, non-cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 C&R entries for heaviest striped bass or bluefish. Open to all town of East Hampton residents and family of members.
  5. Spring Tournament: The contest, for the heaviest C&R striped bass (28” min) or bluefish (28” min), will begin Friday, May 17th 2019 at 12:01AM and end at 10:00AM on Sat July 6th, 2019. All applications must be submitted online or; provided to a committeeman or Paulie’s Tackle by the tournament entry deadline.
  6. Fall Tournament: The contest, for the heaviest C&R striped bass (28” min) or bluefish (28” min), will begin Friday, Sept 13th 2019 at 12:01AM and end at 10:00AM on Sat Nov 30th 2019. All applications must be submitted online or; provided to a committeeman or Paulie’s Tackle by the tournament entry deadline.
  7. Paulie’s Tackle and West Lake Marina are the official tackle shops for the 2019 tournament, C&R affidavits can be dropped off or picked up at either location.
    • Note: Please kindly notify a committee member or email [email protected] of your C&R entry within 24 hours.
  8. Bait and/or Artificial Lures are allowed. One rod per angler and you must hold it (No Dead-Sticking). Contestants must land their own fish and can only enter 1 C&R entry per day.
  9. Fishing boundaries are all areas within the township of East Hampton only.
  10. Open to all present and past members. Any non-members who wish to participate in the contest must provide 2 references below and will be approved by the SurfMasters committee.   11. Distribution of the cash prize money to the heaviest adult C&R fish will be as follows: 1st Place 60%; 2nd Place 30%, 3rd Place 10% in adult category. Division winners 1st place 100% of pot.
  12. Full rules for catch & release will be provided prior to tournament start date via email and sent to all participating members. Photo and/or signed affidavit of witness and member will be used to accept entries in division. All rules for C&R are subject to change throughout the tournament. Ties go to earliest fish reported.
  13. All winners of C & R are subject to lie detector tests at the committee discretion. All decisions of the committee are final. Failure to pass an independent polygraph test will result in loss and termination of winners, are not appealable and no refund of entry fee.
  14. Adult Men & Women’s Wader Division Participation Rules
    • In the interest of Good Sportsmanship, no boats, prams, rafts, balloons, kites, flippers (No Skishing), poling, swimming, drifting, floating or trolling to access any rocks, sandbars, reefs, or rips allowed. No wetsuiting allowed. Waders only. The following rocks are banned from surfcasting on: weakfish rocks, jones rock, bluff rock, northbar sandbar, whistle rock. Rod and reel surfcasting only.
  15. Wetsuit Division Participation Rules
    • b. Feet must be on solid mother earth or rock when you hook up. You can swim or pole to your rock. No flippers: no skishing. No free-floating, drifting or swimming while actually fishing. No boats, prams, kayaks, rafts, balloons or kites. Rod and reel surfcasting only.
  16. Kids & Youth Participation Rules
    • c. All youths and kids must cast and retrieve on their own, although leader-landing assistance is permitted.
I agree to abide by the rules of the 2019 Montauk SurfMasters Tournament Rules. I agree to hold harmless Montauk SurfMasters and its committeemen for any injuries or damages.
