The Montauk SurfMaster’s 2018 Fall Classic tournament runs from Sep 14th to Nov 25th 2018. This is a seven week invitation only competition that is open to all current Montauk SurfMaster’s and previous members only.

Terms of Agreement

Application: Rules, Regulations, Bylaws
  1. There will be a cost of $200 for Adult Wader, $200 for Adult Wetsuit; $100 for Women; to participate in the heaviest fish for adults (18+) of which all monies will be allocated to the winner’s pot except for a $75.00 per person cost towards an awards get-together in early December (place, time & Date TBD).
    1. Adult men may not enter both the wader and wetsuit divisions.
    2. In addition, all members entering to compete for the heaviest fish will also be able to participate in the 2017 catch and release division. For those members looking to participate only in the catch & release division, there will be a $25 entry fee, competing for non-cash awards.
    3. Open to all present and past members of the Montauk SurfMasters Surfcasting Tournament. Tickets are not
      transferable.
  2. Kids (11yr or under) and Youth registration (Ages 12-17) is free, non-cash prizes will be awarded for the top 3 finishes
    for heaviest striped bass or bluefish. Additional prizes awarded for C&R entries. Open to all town of East Hampton
    residents and family of members.
  3. The contest, for the heaviest striped bass (28” min) or bluefish (28” min), will begin Friday, September 14, 2018 at 12:01AM and end at 10:00AM on Sun November 25, 2018. All applications must be submitted online or; provided to a committeeman or Paulie’s Tackle no later than 7:00PM Saturday, September 14th, 2018.  
  4. Paulie’s Tackle and West Lake Marina are the official weigh-in stations and will weigh in contenders during business hours only. Note: Please kindly notify a committee member or email [email protected] of your weigh-in. 
  5. Bait and/or Artificial Lures are allowed. One rod per angler and you must hold it (No Dead-Sticking).  Contestants must weigh in their own fish, and can only weigh in one fish per day.  You must land your own fish. 
  6. Fishing boundaries are all areas within the township of East Hampton only. 
  7. Open to all present and past members. Any non-members who wish to participate in the contest must provide 2 references below and will be approved by the SurfMasters committee.  Committee members for the 2018 tournament are:  Atilla Ozturk 631-680-1670, Bill Jakob 631374-9894 and Mike Coppola 631-213-7278.
  8. Distribution of the cash prize money to the heaviest fish will be as follows: 1st Place 60%; 2nd Place 30%, 3rd Place 10%.  In the event of a tie for any of the three places, the greater prize and the next lower prize will be joined together, and the total sum will be divided in half. 
  9. Full rules for catch & release will be provided prior to tournament start date via email and sent to all participating members. Photo and/or signed affidavit of witness and member will be used to accept entries in division.  All rules for C&R are subject to change throughout the tournament.  Ties go to earliest fish reported.
  10. All winners including C & R are subject to lie detector tests at the committee discretion. All decisions of the committee are final. Failure to pass an independent polygraph test will result in loss and termination of winners, are not appealable and no refund of entry fee.
  11. Adult Men & Women’s Wader Division Participation Rules
    1. In the interest of Good Sportsmanship, no boats, prams, rafts, balloons, kites, flippers (No Skishing), poling, swimming, drifting, floating or trolling to access any rocks, sandbars, reefs, or rips allowed. No wetsuiting allowed. Waders only. The following rocks are banned from surfcasting on: weakfish rocks, jones rock, bluff rock, northbar sandbar, whistle rock.  Rod and reel surfcasting only.
  12. Wetsuit Division Participation Rules
    1. Feet must be on solid mother earth or rock when you hook up. You can swim or pole to your rock.  No flippers: no skishing.  No free-floating, drifting or swimming while actually fishing.  No boats, prams, kayaks, rafts, balloons or kites.  Rod and reel surfcasting only.
  13. Kids & Youth Participation Rules
    1. All youths and kids must cast and retrieve on their own, although leader-landing assistance is permitted.
I agree to abide by the rules of the 2018 Montauk SurfMasters “Fall Classic”. I agree to hold harmless Montauk SurfMasters and its committeemen for any injuries or damages.
