The last two weeks of October always sees a few big fish hit the surf in MTK with a lot of casters heading out hoping for the catch of a lifetime. The backside of the October full moon had a lot of sharpies feeling good about the early part of this week but the fish justdid not cooperate…..that is except for Gary Krist’s 32lb fish taking third in the locals tournament!
Early Part of the Week, A Few Fish on The NorthSide
Regardless of how bad the weather is or how off the conditions can get the great thing about Montauk is you can always find a few fish. The early part of the week saw some decent sunrise blitzes at the Wong and inside clarks cove. There were a few fish taken into the 20lb class in addition to Gary’s 32. A lot of sharpies headed into the southside rocks on Tuesday night with the mild weather looking for a chew of big fish and were only able to wrangle a few fish for an all night effort.
Strong Easterly Blow on Wednesday in Montauk
This Wednesday brought the weather and there a few insane blitzes of teen size fish in the south side by browns and kings early in the day. Anglers braving 30-40mph winds out of the east working the northside did not see the 30’s and 40’s pushed out of the rips into the surf but there was a little action on school size and keeper bass in the whitewater on bucktails.
Next Few Days Look Promising, Get Out and Fish!
The last two days have seen a slow pic of small fish on the Northside but nothing consistent. The next two days are looking good for the nigh tides so get out and give it a shot. With a little whitewater eels and needlefish should do the trick. Paulies has a real good selection of needlefish from Afterhours, SuperStrike, BeachMaster and others. The SS needlefish should be back on the shelves so grab em quick. Some light, some dark…mix it up.
The fish should be coming down in pods from block and the cape as we approach the end of the month and this next week should show a few cows in the surf.
It feel like fall now, get out and fish!
